Odyssey

In this series of ceramic plate videos, the virtual is the actual and the actual is virtual. The present is past, and past is present. Much like the phenakistiscope developed in the late 1800’s the video creates an illusion of motion analogous to the physical, spiritual and artistic journey I have made and continue to make as an immigrant, moving through time and space, but embedded in history and tradition. With each successive jump of the rope I am momentarily transported, freed. Each new place and experience propel me into the future, expands my understanding of humanity, but could not exist without the past, the hands and breath of my ancestors, and the person I was and the one that I am forever seeking.
